Year 5 Fire Service Visit
Year 5 - A lesson for life.
An Education Officer form Hampshire Fire and Service Education Team visited Year 5 recently. The focus was to help and educate the local community on the dangers of fire and how to ensure the risk of a fire outbreak, in the home, is as low as it could be.
The pupils learnt how to put out a fire out, using Stop, Drop and Roll, if your clothes are on fire – learning that this strategy stops oxygen getting to and feeding the fire. The pupils also planned and drew a safe escape route from their home; that is was not safe to re-enter a house that is on fire to rescue a pet or collect an item; that there are three things a fire needs – heat, fuel and oxygen; as well as the main causes of fire, from a mobile phone under the pillow to hazards in the kitchen.
Year 5 had a splendid time joining in with conversations and learning an important lesson for life.
